The U.S. Virgin Islands are an insular area (territory) of the United States. The archipelago consists of four main islands (St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, and Water Island), as well as many smaller ones. Charlotte Amalie is the territorial capital, and is located on the island of St. Thomas.
