Casablanca, Morocco
With almost 4 million people, Casablanca is by far Morocco's largest city. A French Protectorate since 1910, Morocco gained independence in 1956. The French influence on the city is evident, with its commerical squares, and laid-out city parks complete with fountains. This was my first visit to North Africa.

Funchal, the capital of Portugal's Autonomous Region of Madeira, is a city of stunning views, thanks to its amphitheatre-like typography. Beginning at the harbour, the city rises almost 4,000 feet high on gentle slopes, creating beautiful, sweeping vistas.
Off to Europe!
We began our transatlantic crossing when we left our home port of Ft. Lauderdale on April 1st, 2007. After stopping in Nassau (April 2nd), and Half Moon Cay (April 3rd), we had six sea-days straight of open water! The water was smooth and the weather was great, which made for an excellent and calm crossing. We hit landfall on April 10th, when we docked at Funchal, Madeira Islands (Portugal), our first European port-of-call!
